The annual festival of Sumiyoshi Shrine, dedicated to the guardian deity of maritime and sea-crossing safety, celebrated by the shrine parishioners of the Tsukuda and Tsukishima area. Once every three years, the expanded hon-matsuri features the ceremonial bringing-out of lion-head effigies (shishigashira) and an octagonal mikoshi, a boat procession (funatogyo) carrying the mikoshi through the parish area, and six tall banners (onobori) raised on Tsukuda Island.
