The National Fireworks Competition (Omagari Hanabi) has continued since 1910 and is one of Japan's leading fireworks competitions, held in August along the Omono River in Omagari, Daisen City. Pyrotechnicians selected from across the country compete in daytime and nighttime categories, with the daytime competition said to be the only one of its kind in Japan. The 'creative fireworks' style born here in the 1960s is regarded as the origin of the music-synchronized fireworks displays now enjoyed worldwide.
