Kuji Aki Matsuri

久慈秋まつり

Said to date back to the 1360s and originating from prayers for a good harvest and protection from disaster, this is the largest festival in northern Iwate Prefecture. Eight float groups from around the city build new floats up to about 12 meters tall each year, which parade through the main streets along with portable shrines.
